Can your software do motion-triggered surveillance capture with masking and buffering?

Detailed Question:

How do I do the following: - User-definable motion capture, possibly with the ability to define active areas of the image to monitor (i.e. filter out movements outside of the selected areas) - Generation of AVI/MPEG/WMV video for as long as the movement is detected. I don't want to just get a picture, but to record a user-definable rate movie of arbitrary length - record x seconds before movement starts (by using a buffer and always keeping x seconds of live video in memory, saving the buffer as soon as movement is detected) I saw a lot of freeware/shareware/commercial programs doing motion capture, but the few I tried don't completely meet my needs (admittedly I have not tried all of them due to lack of time). I'm hoping to get suggestions on new programs to try What I need is: - User-definable motion capture, possibly with the ability to define active areas of the image to monitor (i.e. filter out movements outside of the selected areas) - Generation of AVI/MPEG/WMV video for as long as the movement is detected. I don't want to just get a picture, but to record a user-definable rate movie of arbitrary length - If possible, record x seconds before movement starts (by using a buffer and always keeping x seconds of live video in memory, saving the buffer as soon as movement is detected) - low cost :-) Don't need FTP or email notification (nice to have, but not necessary in my application)

Answer:

We don't have user definable masks as yet, we prerecord one second of buffer before motion occurred, and the recording is with jpeg sequences at selectable speeds up to 20fps so that all the stills are clear and usable. In compressed formats like mpeg and wmv, only the key frames are clear. AVI takes too much space and we do not record sound (that is still illegal in most states without the consent of the parties being recorded) so we use jpeg sequences instead of AVI. We do keep recording until motion stops.
